Elina is working with Steyning Bookshop as writer in residence from February to May 2019. As part of an overall project celebrating independent bookshops, Elina will be asking visitors to comment on why Steyning Bookshop deserves to be celebrated by the local community – friendly and helpful staff, regular exciting events, and the glorious smell of real books being just some of the many aspects which add to the shop’s appeal.

Anthology Submission Guidelines

The submission window for entries to the Steyning Bookshop anthology has now passed – the guidelines below remain available for reference only.

Children’s Creative Writing Exercise

Imagine you are sitting on the Steyning Bookshop book-train…

Who is on the train with you? (A friend? A pet? Your family?)

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Now imagine the train has started to move…

Where is the train going?

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

What will you do when you get there?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Now, using your answers to these questions, fill in the gaps to create your own story about the Steyning Bookshop book-train.
